Hyundai Kona Electric Safety and EV Features
Bold Exterior Design and Safety Features on the Kona Electric
With its original gas-powered engine, the Hyundai Kona is a safe, fuel-efficient subcompact with comfortable styling and seating for five. The automaker added an all-electric model, the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric with an emissions-free drivetrain, futuristic styling, and impressive high-tech safety features. With two trims, the Hyundai Kona Electric offers an affordable option for drivers who want a well-equipped electric vehicle.
EV Performance Features
The 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric features a 201-horsepower electric motor with front-wheel drive. A 64-kWh lithium-ion battery pack powers the electric motor. This powertrain goes from zero to 60 in 6.4 seconds with its peppy electric acceleration. It’s fun to drive and handles well on curvy roads thanks to the low center of gravity of the floor-mounted battery. The engine delivers 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque.
The 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric review includes an impressive driving range of 258 miles. With one-pedal driving, regenerative braking keeps the battery charged. Drivers can adjust the regenerative levels with steering wheel paddles.
Kona Electric owners have three charging options. They can use a 110-volt outlet and a 240-volt Level 2 charger for at-home charging. The third option is at a DC fast-charging station.

Kona Electric Safety Features
When shopping for a Hyundai Kona Electric for sale, you’ll notice both trims are loaded with safety features. The Hyundai Kona Electric SEL trim comes with Hyundai SmartSense technology with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, and Driver Attention Warning. The Limited trim comes with the same SmartSense technology but with Adaptive Cruise Control with Pedestrian Detection.
The 2022 Hyundai Kona with a combustion engine received five-star crash ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but the organization has not rated the Kona Electric. The 2021 Hyundai Kona with a combustion engine received a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, but the IIHS has not rated the 2022 Kona Electric.
EV Interior, Exterior, and Comfort Features
The Hyundai Kona Electric has a different look than the models with combustion engines. The upgraded look includes a bold exterior design so it stands apart from previous models. Hyundai added new bumpers, lamps, wheels, and color choices for a futuristic and sophisticated look.
The body-colored claddings accentuate the stance, and the low U-shaped skid plate adds a polished look that the other models don’t have.
On the inside, the ambient interior lighting looks modern and progressive. The interior features also include a 10.3-inch configurable digital gauge display. The SEL trim includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen in the center console and the Limited 10.3-inch touchscreen with navigation. The SEL has a six-speaker audio system, and the upgraded Hyundai Kona Electric Limited audio system comes with an eight-speaker Infinity system with a robustly rich sound.
Both trims come with Bluelink, Hyundai Live Services with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for upgraded connectivity. Interior comfort features resemble those in the models with combustion engines. However, the rear seats in the EV are tighter because of the battery pack taking up some interior space. Despite the slightly smaller space, rear seat occupants appreciate the heated seats. Even with the battery, the cargo space includes 19.3 cubic feet of space.
Both trims are well-equipped, and the base SEL trim comes with several popular features. When buyers add the Convenience package they get a power moonroof, wireless smartphone charging pad, and heated front seats.
